The Martial Journey: From External Form to Internal Oneness

My path in movement began decades ago with a relentless pursuit of physical mastery. I immersed myself in traditional combat arts, training extensively across Aiki Jutsu, Kung Fu, and Karate, eventually earning multiple black belts.

For years, I collected forms, refined techniques, and pushed the boundaries of conventional strength and conditioning. Yet, despite achieving high-level ranks, I realized that collecting choreographed routines and relying on segmented, muscular force (Li) created rigid boundaries and eventual physical wear.

That realization led me to San Francisco, where I sought out a deeper, formless paradigm and was accepted as a direct student of Master Cheuk Fung. A lineage master in Yi Chuan, Hop Gar, Mok Gar, and Lung Ying—as well as an adept of Esoteric Buddhist Chi Gung—Master Fung embodied the essence of "no fixed form, no fixed rule". Under his guidance, I stripped away empty choreography to cultivate true internal unified strength (Hun Yuan Li) through Zhan Zhuang ("Standing the State") and the power of Mind-Intent (Yi). Becoming the first officially sanctioned Yi Chuan instructor under Master Fung’s lineage, I set out to bridge these esoteric cultivation methods with modern biomechanics, founding The Way of Intent and the Energy, Calm, Power (ECP) system to make whole-body biotensegrity accessible to modern practitioners.

Beyond the Mat: High-Speed Laboratory in the Wild

True structural integration cannot live in a vacuum or stay confined to a dojo floor. Alongside my martial journey, my life has been shaped by deep engagement with high-consequence outdoor pursuits: working as a professional snowboard instructor, backcountry hiker, commercial raft guide, and avid mountain biker.

I view these disciplines not as hobbies separate from practice, but as ultimate real-world testing grounds. When navigating Class IV whitewater, descending rugged singletrack on a mountain bike, or carving a technical descent on a snowboard, there is zero time to get lost in the intellectual "Mindspace". Nature demands total presence in the "Nowspace". These dynamic environments provide instantaneous, unfiltered biofeedback on how your structural frame manages kinetic loads, absorbs ground reaction forces, and balances dynamic equilibrium.

Hybrid Experiences: Applying Core Principles to Living Art

Through The Way of Intent, I offer unique Hybrid Training Experiences that merge foundational laboratory work with real-world adventure. We don't just stand still; we "flip the practice pyramid," taking the internal rooting, breathing mechanics, and fascial tensegrity developed during formal practice and actively deploying them into extreme outdoor environments.

Whether we are practicing "Integrated Walking" up high-alpine trails, feeling buoyant hydraulic connection during river excursions, or testing structural stability across variable mountain terrain, these experiences turn high-thrill pursuits into a living laboratory. You will learn to drop chronic muscular tension, tap into effortless stamina, and apply pure internal power precisely where it matters most: out in the real world.
